The famous supernova-in-waiting is always worth watching, as much for the breathtaking background of the Southern Milky Way as for anything else. The close-up chart above shows only the brighter stars and, in the interests of clarity, does not show the "Keyhole" nebula in which eta is immersed. Also shown is BO Car, a red variable star.
